Brake noise

Hi,

I just put on new Shimano BR-M6100 rear brake, I didn't replace my rotor, SM-RT54 160mm. The calibers are the newer 2 pistons, I've previously had deore and slx calibers with 1 piston. No issues.

1st ride in when braking hard i'm getting a sound that almost sounds like a cracking, popping? Kind of hard to hear and describe when coming down the trail. I first thought I had something caught in my spokes, thought maybe a spoke was flexing or about to break. I attempted to look down at my rear brake when this is happening (not easy thing to do) and it looks like my rotor is warped. I stopped, check it, no it now looks fine.

Looking at shimano's site, these rotor's are compatible with this brake. I've replaced a few other things on my bike at the same time, cassette, chain, chain ring but I don't expect those items to be causing this noise. And again, this noise only happens at hard braking and usually deeper into the braking time.

Rotor is old, the two piston caliber gets quite a grab and is heating up too much? Would that cause a noise?
Any other help/thoughts appreciated.

Are you sure your calipers are installed straight and aligned?

yes, i lined em up, hold lever on and tightened. checked before riding, no brake rub
Did you clean and sand the rotors before using with new pad material? Might be a mixed compound interaction..

There are only so many things it can be..if calipers are alighed and tightened to 8nm and rotor is tightened to hub correctly and spokes are tight...then not much else it can be..

i thought about that, i don't usually sand the rotors with new pads i just bed them in with some initial light braking. How i've been taught to bed in new pads. I'll double check the caliper alignment and rotors for good measure.
