when i squeezed my back brake hard it just slowly mushed in and now when i squeeze it, it doesnt brake at all and the metal on the lever hits the body of the brake becasue it is going in all the way. does anyone know what could have caused this or how i could find out. i was thinking i might have a leak in the line. if so how would i chek to see if i did.
if i need a new brake line i might want to get a steel braided one. where are some places where i could but these?

That happened to me with my hayes nines. The shop said that air had gotten into the system somehow, and as a result I had an air bubble. They bled the brakes for me and everything was OK. You can do it yourself but at that point I didn't feel like experimenting.

would i need to add oil and bleed them or just bleed them, it makes send that there is air in the line becuase i looked down the whole line and where the line goes into the brake and the caliper and didnt feel or see anything leaking out.

Check out goodridge brake lines they are super sexy. I love the steel braided look.

As far as how to maintain brakes and check for a leak I am a noob to hydros. When mine wear out I'm sure i'll make th ejump to braided as well.

Good Luck,

Just do a bleed like you normally would on the brakes, it should get rid of the air and make your brakes work well again.

If you want to change out your lines, see if you've got enough money for some goodridge lines and fittings. They can be a little expensive, but they dont expand under pressure and they're pretty damn tough.

Hayes Nines are notorious for the lever adjustment screw back out. I finally had to add a very small amount of loktight to keep the lever from depressing to the bar. Ya might try that before you bleed or put on new brake lines. If it's not hayes nines, then nevermind my post...

watch your brake lines because it sounds like you have a leak somewhere....probably a kink in your lines-which broke open......you should be able to still pump up your brakes...if this doesn't work replace your lines and then bleed...Dot 3 or 4 automotive brake fluid....it works and cheaper than the hayes stuff at the bike shops
