Haro Flightline Comp

Hello from near Asheville NC.

I was pushing my hybrid with it's skinny 700-35 tires up the hills in Pisgah National Forest and riding it down because my 63 year old left knee is 'hosed' and walking downhill is painful. Several things happened recently to change that.

One, I've grown to like biking the mountains as much, or more, than hiking.

Two, last week they put fresh gravel (read, rocks) on the service roads that connect the trails and riding down through them with the brakes and my anus clenched tight was horrifying.

Three, pedaling seems to improve my knee situation so that I'm taking fewer pain killers and having less stiffness.

My local bike shop, Carolina Fatz, had me ride several bikes including a lower end Haro and a Scott Aspect 45. At another shop I tried the Specialized Rockhopper. It became pretty obvious that fit and feel was much more important than "my shock is better than your shock", especially as at my age, the next time I 'Bunny Hop' will be at a Senior Day Care dance.

The cheaper Haro felt better than the Comp but they put a few spacers on the stem riser and there we were. The Scott just didn't suit me; the frame had me hunched over. I really liked the Specialized Rockhopper and it's price, but the 18" frame had the seatpost too long and the 20" left the wedding vegetables sitting right on the top tube:eek:

Looking forward to riding all the way up hill with all those gears tomorrow
