Ok, went to the LBS, guy said it was crap. Read the reviews, people said it was good. You can't beat the price for it, but i want it to last a while for some DH. Maybe a little fr as well. Does the low price give me low quality as well? Thanks.

What, your LBS doesnt carry Iron Horse i suppose? Guy sounds like a d!ck as they are sweet bikes at even sweeter price.

except for the fork and stem on my sgs pro, they built a hell of a solid bike...

lbs's bsing customers as usual. they're gonna tell you everything they dont carry is crap, and if you dont buy from them your gonna be sorry. the iron horse is a great bike at a great price. i say go for it.
They are awsome bikes, solid and you can't beat price wise what the bike comes with stock! Just a quick question are you from Canada? Just because I am finding a lot of bike stores up here saying that are crap just because they can't carry them Sportchek has exclusive rights to Iron horse in Canada...(for now anyways, wait a few years and when the bike shops are carrying them then they'll have nothing bad to say about them) And because of that I hear alot of neg. things said about them but I think they're sweet bikes.
Just my 2cents...
I've been riding mine '04 SGS Pro DH for most of the summer and it is fantastic. Going from a Scream/Monster T combo to the SGS Pro DH is like a night and day comparison with respect to DH riding/racing. It tracks unbelievably well and Horst-link allows you to pedal through the rough stuff. For freeriding I would check out the Iron Horse Freeride SGS's, but for shuttling DH and racing the bike is fantastic.

Ugh, I HATE sportchek. The one store I went to that actually carried the SGS, the seat-tube was lowered such that it was fully pressing into the shock spring, so that the spring was pushing into the shock body. The front brake hose was wrapped around the head tube (yes, around the back) and it was TIGHT. It looked like the hose was going to pull right out of the lever. I'd import an SGS from a real bike shop in the US before I'd ever buy from those nitwits.
Head to the Toronto Eaton's Centre Sportchek. They did a great job assembling mine. You can complain all you want about Sportchek, but an SGS Pro DH for $2799.00 CDN is a killer deal. Race-ready from the box...

Simon
LOL, that's where I saw the bike with those problems! I absolutely agree that $2799 is a killer deal, and yes, there were a couple of other SGS's there that had no obvious problems, but still, seeing a bike so cluelessly assembled really makes me lose trust in those guys. Honestly, these were obvious and serious problems. Glad to hear yours worked out well for you though...where are you riding it around TO? I'm always looking for new areas, especially since it seems like all the stunts are getting torn up around here
I just got my SGS DH Team after 2 years of renting Big Hits and Connondale DH bikes at Diablo. The first ride on my SGS I became a better rider immediately. I was hitting bigger jumps and drops and going higher and further then ever before. Not to mention hitting the rough stuff faster. I love this thing!!! This is the first bike I ever purchased where I didn't feel like I had to swap out a bunch of parts to get it how I wanted (that's why I opted for Team over Pro). Also the fact the Ska Todd was very helpful with before and after purchase questions. I give it a 10/10 because of ride, specs, parts and value.

You can check out pricing at supergo.com but shipping will probably cost a few bucks to Canada but I know they just lowered their pricing recently.

ih bikes are the best out there. they have great customer support and great componentry and setup for the $$$

I've owned 3 ihs and loved all three im down to 2 now and am going to get a 3rd one next year.

Good luck altho the only luck you need is in your riding skills
Seems warranty is good. G just broke his third this year and #4 is on it's way.
Shibby... Just a quick question which sportchek did you go to? Sorry you saw this at your local Sportchek but for you to classify all Sportcheks as one isn't fair there are Sportcheks out there with actual riders working on the bikes and selling them..
Iron Horse

The Iron Horse is a great bike for the money; however, the stock E-13 link will develop some play. If you upgrade to the new E-13 rear link the bike shouldn't give you any problems what so ever. I haven't heard of anyone breaking or cracking any of those frames. The only problem is the E-13 link is weak and will develop some play. For around $220 you can order a new link from E-13 and your problems will go away...the only other problem is that they all come with Boxxers now--buyer beware!

My Shiver is 100x better than the POS race that came on my SGS Pro...that includes when I put a team compression cartridge in the boxxer. The boxxer is simply a joke comparitively...my wrists also thanked me when I put the shiver on.

jm i doubt you ever really hucked or dhed or djed a properly setup boxxer team. i do, will post pix to back it up and feel your remarks are way off. the semi pro and pro racers i know understand that you either run with a boxxer or lose the national and world cup races to those who do. that said, the shiver is a sick fork, probably a better freeride fork but definetely not better at dh or dj. not even close in the speed dept.

i usually agree with you but after killing it on a boxxer team on the ih 03 sgs dh i wonder if maybe you need to get out and freeride some more because i have learned a lot about cornering from just riding a boxxer real fast and laying off the brakes and seeing myself nail lines in my sleep.
Sportchek and Ironhorse

hey dhchick,

Good to hear that there are actually sportchek's with good bike departments out there. I saw this at the Sportchek in Eaton center in Toronto. I've never actually seen a sportchek around here that carries more than the lower-end ht's and fs bikes except there, so this is the only one that I've seen that carried the SGS, and the guys there sure weren't actual riders. If there ARE other Sportcheks in the area that actually carry the SGS and have guys working there that know what they are talking about, I would love to know as they are sweet bikes.
