As I start to plan my Stumpjumper rebuild (drive train and brakes) that I’ll complete before next seasons riding begins, my attention has turned to bottom brackets. Currently running Sram Dub, but thinking I’m going to convert to Shimano (I’ve already move most of the SRAM NX drivetrain to my Fatboy, except cranks and bb). Being Shimano is 24mm, I’ll need a new bb. Lots to choose from. Prices are all over the place, as expected. Do any of them offer something important that the others don’t? Seems like from light reading and comparing that the big differences are weight, bling and status symbol stuff, other than some have ceramic bearings.

Most of my riding is dry/dusty, but there certainly are days and times that are mucky and wet with creek crossings.

Any and all input will be

I think the most obvious choices are Shimano, Wheels manufacturing, Cane Creek, and Chris King.

I recently bought a 24mm threaded shimano xt bottom bracket, for all of $26.

My thinking was that an old XT BB I have on another bike has been around for ages and is still good after tons of use. So before I drop more money on something robust like the Chris king, I might as well try the cheap option. Especially because so many people seem to have good success with them.

I've had exceptional luck with well known crappy BBs in dry and dusty conditions. A Truvative Stylo and the first gen E13. Both are over ten years old, never seen the light of day, and are buttery smooth. Tons of miles too, racing and traveling including wet rides in Oregon, Arizona monsoons, Iceland, Ireland and here in the Socal mountains where we have four seasons.
