Bootleg Reccomendations

901 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Quicksilver77
A few of us are heading out to Bootleg for the first time this monday. We aren't terribly experienced but we ride everyday on the road and we've both done quite a bit of trail riding in the past.

Any trail recommendations for our firt trip out there? Ideally something XC that is somewhat minor.

Do you have to have the bootlegger map or is it easy enought to figure out?
Thanks.

Hey there-

http://www.bootlegcanyon.org/map.html

Pretty much everything in the green or blue is XC to agressive XC. It's pretty easy to find your way around. The trails have signs and are easy to keep track of. Do you have a GPS?

Matt
Yep I'll have a GPS and I've been looking at this stuff on Google earth. Just not sure what the trails are like yet.
Nelsonccc,

POW/IMBA is a great cc type single track trail that is more dirt then rough rock, it flows really good with some climbing.

Girl Scout is more rocky then dirt and is a good challenging uphill climb to the top of the road cross over the curve in the dirt road and you can drop onto the trail that goes by a small cave and this takes you out to Caldera which is mostly flowing dirt trail with a few rocky areas that are pretty easy.

If you ride girl scout back downhill be careful their is some very technical areas in fact last week a normal downhill guy got out his cross country bike to ride up and down girl scout and wiped out on the way down.

If you go behind the bathrooms their is the lakeview trails which are very smooth flowing softer type dirt trails with some climbing and 1-3 little drop downs where you ride back up and is fun.

Keep in mind that most any trail you ride at bootleg generally had some climbing associated with that trail.

Good luck and have fun..

Awesome. This is exactly the information I was looking for. I've been scouting the caldera trail via google earth all morning. Looks fun.
Caldera is fun, lake view loops are a blast, girl scout down is a fun run, pow, imba, mother, etc.......lol, I think I justed named all the trails, yeah it's that fun
I usually park at the restrooms and ride up Girl Scout to Caldera to get warmed up. After that, you could take Caldera, West Leg, or go back down Girl Scout. I like taking West Leg from there to Mother to POW or IMBA. My fave has got to be Girl Scout to West Leg to Mother to the trail that runs behind Cascada Golf, over the mountain and back around to Caldera. Total trip is about 12 miles.

I always wondered what that trail was called. :D
What would be he desired direction of travel on Caldera? Do people go up girl scout? How does west leg compare to girl scout? We're thinking of parking higher and riding caldera counter clockwise. Then if we're up for it we'll ride down west leg and back up girl scout? Crazy?
Both inner and outer Caldera trials should be ridden in a clockwise direction. If you have a digital watch go what ever direction you like.
Girl scout is the easiest trail to ride up. West leg is an intermediate trail, so the riding is for more advanced riders, but its not too rough. Yes, you could ride down west leg and back up girl scout.
