I put my 2005 Klein Attitude disc on a diet. It is a Bontrager-equipped pig at 27 lbs compared to my previous 1997 Klein Attitude which was around 22-23 lbs.
So I bought a $449 Ebay DT Swiss 240s disc wheelset with DT 4.1d rims and DT comp spokes. The claimed weight was 1534g or so. Actual weight comes out to be about 1604g w/o rim strips or skewers-- maybe the est. wt was for the non-disc wheelset.
The Bontrager race disc wheelset it replaces is a lithe 1955g. Sheesh.
The difference comes out to be 351 g.
I also replaced the heavy SRAM pg-950 cassette 11-34t (456g) with a PG-990 (309g). Diff is 147 g.
Total weight loss is 498 g. A little over a pound. Not a bad start.
Next to go are the heavy Klein deathgrip tires to be replaced with some Conti Explorer Protection tires.
I kinda want to get rid of the Hayes Nine disc brakeset and replace it with something light and user-friendly. Which is lightest/easiest to work with: Avid disc, XTR disc or Formula disc brakesets? (I can't go back to V Brakes b/c I have no canti mounts.)
