I have been told by Sales associates that it is important to get a double wall rim if I were to go on light trails.

I see the Bontrager 550 is used on all the 3 series bikes. Are they single or double walled?

Also how important is it that a bike is double walled?

550 is single wall. Single wall rims are less durable than double and not recommended for real trails. Unless you are on the heavy side, the 3 series bikes are fine for occasional light trail duty.

I don't know what a "real" trail is but I want to go maybe 3-4 times a month on beginner-intermediate trails. I am thinking single wall rims may not be the way to go.

Its a bummer that even the 3900 has single wall, while the competition in that price range mostly have double wall.
