Can I use a set of Tektro cross-pull brakes on my GT Xizang frame which originally came with U brakes? The Tektro are used on freeride bmx style bikes, but mount in the same location.
thanks.

by cross-pull brakes I surmise you're referring to one of the U-brake style brakes. Never heard them called that before, but that's as good a name as any. My danscomp catalog shows a bunch of models of tectro "u brakes" that all fit onto "diacompe 990" bosses. Diacompe 990 was the company's original U-brake. I guess theydon't call them "U brake bosses" anymore since there aren't any actual "U brakes" a shitmano term I guess, being made.
short answer, yes, you can.
I recall the diacompes as not being as powerful (or as heavy) as the shitmanos, but that could've been all about the diacompe pads, which often sucked compared to good aftermarket pads. No experience with tectros, but pretty much brake arms are brake arms. cross the straddle cable behind the seat tube like I already said somewhere and you'll get much more power.
