Hi interesting article about a guy riding from NYC to Miami to raise $$$ for Hurricane Katrina.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/01/nyregion/01bike.html?emc=eta1

His website about his trip is..

http://www.tourdelee.com/photodiary.htm

If you click on photos of Brooklyn Machine Works, building his bike, you will see what looks like a 29er front and 26 rear tire. (Maybe 26/24 combo but I can't tell)

Quickie search on http://www.brooklynmachineworks.com/ shows nothing on the topic.

Anyway, the guy rode a 29 pound bike from NYC to Miami. He rocks and I hope to see him as part of the Art Basel events down here.

See ya!

What sacrifice! How daring of him to take a bike vacation to raise money for this worthy cause du jour. Cutting edge no? I myself am taking donations for riding my bike home from work this evening, all proceeds to go to my fund for work with unwed mothers.

Looking at the pics. the bike has Sun Single Track rims front and rear which would lead me to believe that's a 24"/26" setup. Boy, I don't know if I'd want to ride one of those 5 miles on trails, let alone halfway across the country... More power to him.

yes, sacrifice

Dear Hjalti-

I thought about responding to you privately, but since you commented in public, I will do the same, but I don't want to hijack this thread since its about bikes not charity. Should you want to respond my email is [email protected]

Whatever Lee Quinones motivations were (and considering he never rode a bike seriously before - I doubt it was a bike vacation) he did raise $20,000 in donations to help Hurricane Katrina. That's more than I did. I just helped 90 other mountain bikers open up Oleta River State Park mountain bike trails here in S Florida. I looked on your website and while I admire your dedication to fixed gears and county roads, I did not see any mention of work with unwed mothers. I'll assume that comment from you was sarcasm.

You are entitled to disprove of Mr. Quinones efforts (although I have no idea why you would want to), but I applaud him, his $20k raised, his 29lb bike and encourage people to visit his site and his sponsors.

If I make it to the event I'll report back if its a 24/26 tired combo. Ouch!

Sooooo it's got an EBB and horizontal dropouts?
Frickin' dial-up is too slow to look at the pics but if it's a Brooklyn it's probably not an EBB but a BMX shell.

Nope, it's Brooklyn's Park Bike, which is 24" rear wheel specific and sports a BMX bb shell. In the photo the frame is shown with an insert adaptor to run a standard/euro bb setup.

Ok, that makes sense.

Sheet, not the greatest touring rig. Think they put rack mounts on their park bike? :D
