Blur 4X, will a 2.25" stroke shock work?

Hi
Just got hold of a used 4X frame, love it
It's got an RP3 which works nicely but I fancy putting a coil shock on for DH days etc and was thinking about trying the longer stroke shock (7.875" x 2.25") to get a bit more travel.
Has anyone actually tried putting a 2.25" stroke shock on a Blur 4X
Do any frame parts collide under full compression?
Cheers

Apparently the tire will hit the seat tube. I havent' tried it myself, as I put on a 2010 RP23 and that make the bike so bloody good I think going to a coil would actually be a step backwards.

Were I you, I'd look into the new RP23.
You have the frame, right?

Take the shock off and compress the rear suspension until the seat stay cross brace touches the seat tube and measure the distance between the frame shock mounts. if the distance is greater than 5.63", it will work.
Would that work? From what I understand, its the tire that hits, not the brace.

If i wasn't so damn lazy, i'd put on the 2.25 coil that I have here and try it out for you haha :p
If the tire hits first, just mount a tire & wheel in the frame and check the shock mount distance. The idea is you want to make sure the shock bottoms out before the frame, tire, or other parts do.

I'm not positive on the 4x, but my blur XC cross brace hit before the tire did.
Bah! Don't bother. The minimal amount of travel you'll get isn't going to make a difference. just took my 4X down Demo in Santa Cruz and had a blast. Remember, your legs have about 18" of travel. Learn to use those.

I'm still rocking the RP3 and it's all I need. If you're itching to upgrade, then try out the 2010 RP23, but keep the 2.0" stroke. I've heard nothing but good things about it. If you really feel you need more travel, get a BLT2 or Nomad.
I've tried that coil with 2.25 set up before.. "it works".. as long as you use a coil shock.. an air with 2.25 stroke how ever will not work...

my set up was a fox dhx 5.0 7.875x2.25.. i was running maxxis high roller 2.35 in the rear with no issues..
as mentioned ^.. you can try it first.. mount the shock without the coil..let the air out of the piggy and compress the shock..

oh' and um'.. that coil feel rules on this bike

here is my blur.. http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/3673258/
it will work

yes, it will work if u use a coil..i have one on for over a year. i have a roco world cup coil.
nice, i thought a 2.0" shock was required.

when I get more cash, a Pushd Vivid will be replacing my stock RP3 - not sure if 2.0 or 2.25".
What shock length and stroke is needed on the Blur 4X? I've checked most places and just can't seem to find the info.

Thanks

when did rock shox start making vivids in anything smaller than 2.5 stroke?
Anyone tried the Monarch dual air?

Heard positive things - and dual air works' pretty well up front....
I've heard people talking about changing the rear shock on a Heckler from air to Coil, due to the different leverage of the single pivot.

My question is does the VPP negate any benefit from chaning to a coil from an air shock, due the different leverage and rear axle path?
