Blew my adjustment knob off - WTF?

Ok, so I blew the preload knob off a set of Dart 1's. How does that happen?

The conditions:

Preload was maxed all the way tight.

I was bouncing on the fork to clear some mud off.

Cotter pin blew off from too much bouncy-bouncy with not enough air reliefy-reliefy - just a guess:confused:
It's cheap plastic and the force of the spring was greater than the threads ability to hold.

I don't know what to say...  :skep:  :bluefrown:
This happened to a kid I used to know with a set of RST 281s about 10 years ago .

The was riding trials and so the preload was wound right up. Just as he bounced on the fork to do a hop, the plastic preload adjusters exploded out of the fork and smacked him under the chin and broke his jaw.

He sued RST, but I don't know what the outcome was.

:skep: broke his jaw?:skep:
broke his jaw?
Yes, I know it sounds like prime BS, but it's true
Is this normal? The fork only has a couple hundred miles on it.

....and I can believe it broke his jaw. It sounded like a gun going off when it blew. I never found the cap.

I would have put money that is was a Rock Shox Dart or one of their older models.

RockShox fork line starts at Tora, the Dart should not be considered as a fork.

I'm looking at a Tora 302 or 318 with U-Turn. Maybe I'll upgrade to Motion Control later on if I need it.

Go with the 318, the upgraded damper is well worth it.

dunno what I was thinking, must have misread the post I replied to :madman:
someone on MTB posted awhile back about some RS fork having the spring side blow up- and hit him in the eye! He complained to RS and they sent him a new fork...
