The chain will still be able to come off the ring on the top.
My bro has use an E-13 DRS and a front der, with the limit screws adjusted to keep the chain on the ring, as a makeshift single speed guide.pbbullpup said:I'm thinking about getting a Blackspire Stinger chainguide for a 1 X 9 setup. Has anyone used this?
What kind of single roller would you suggest? I'm building a bike to ride on some DH trails that don't have chairlifts so it's like an hour ride up each time. I'm more concerned about something simple to keep the weight low.davec113 said:It's meant for 2x9 w/ fd. So no, I wouldn't use it for 1x9. But you could use a fd as a top chainguide and get a single roller if you need something cheap and ghetto.
Even if the roller is replaced, it would still allow the chain to come off at the top of the ring.Jim311 said:It's the rubber roller itself that is "stepped" that allows the chain to shift up and down properly. If you replaced that roller with a single ring roller with no steps then it would probably work.

Yeah, my front derailler keeps my chain on up top.XSL_WiLL said:Even if the roller is replaced, it would still allow the chain to come off at the top of the ring.
