I was going to bike up to Underhill State Park/Campground does anyone know how open it is during the winter and are you also able to hike the Sunset Ridge trail in the winter to the top of Mansfield?

Does it get enough traffic in the winter to still see the trail clearly or have enough snow packed down because of the foot traffic ?

There is a gate across the road that closes in the winter a little ways down from the state park, but if you're on a bike you can ride through the park to the trailhead. The area is very busy year-'round and the Sunset Ridge trail is probably the main attraction. There will be hikers, snowshoers, and even some skiers there any time of the year you go. Unless you are there before sunrise after a big snow, you shouldn't have a problem seeing the trail, but once you're on the exposed ridge it could be more difficult to follow. Generally, you can camp in the VT state parks in the winter as long as you contact them first for a "pass," but I don't know what the policy is this winter.
