I rode one of my buddies specialized enduro comp recently and loved the bike. Unfortunately there are none in my area available. What might be a comprable bike in the 2000 range. I have heard Yeti and the Jamis XLT, anything else?

The Giant VT2 or VT3 are in that category and I love my VT! :)

A good can of worms you have opened here.

Another option to consider could be the Ironhorse hollowpoint.....

The one thing I don't like about the VT series is how the seatpost rests on the rebound knob of the rear shock, I'm sure if you trimmed it, it would be o.k. One other thing I disliked about the VT series was the fact that the seatposts also required shims, seems kind of silly for a brand new bike to need a seatpost shim, why not find a seatpost to fit the seat tube?

I was deciding between a VT 2 and an Enduro and went with the Enduro.

Another vote for the VT, I love mine....and just to clarify the above....the seatpost does NOT sit on the rebound knob if you have it adjusted correctly, and if you need to trim it, then that is no biggie. Also, although it does come with a shim/seatpost set up, you can easily trade it out for a 30.9 Thomson (that's what I did) and it works GREAT!! Rides like a dream, SPV suspension actually does what it says.
