I can't believe that I have been using mtbr.com for years to scout out the review section for gear and trails, but never have jumped into the forums. One hell of a good resource!
Anyhow, I am dragging a trailer behind my Titus ml from my home in the hills to Tahoe (north shore) for a week and then off to Downieville for a another week or so. I am familiar with the TRT (thru hiked it once, ridden some sections), but have never camped out of anything but a car or backpack. Anybody have any recommendations for some semi-secluded camping at Tahoe that will get me away from the crowds or at least hidden from their RV's? I will need to leave my gear at camp to hit the trails, and would like to not worry about returning to an empty beer stash. And while I am at it, I am thinking of camping up near packer saddle in DV, but never have before. Any other suggestions? Thanks, and see you on the trails!

Many of the trails you want you ride are on National Forest lands.

And conveniently enough, National Forest also has a rule that allows dispersed camping - basically you can camp anywhere on National Forest lands that is not marked otherwise. So you can camp just off of the trails you ride in most places. No facilities, but no costs or crowds.

Packer Saddle is National Forest lands and falls under this rule - so you can camp there. I think if you head up the fire road along the ridge (opposite direction from the shuttle drop off), you can get spots with pretty good views of Gold Lake and such.
