I have a brand new one installed on my Ibis Exie. The bike was built by someone else. I lowered the height by an inch and torqued the post clamp to 5nm. The post wouldn’t fully extend, stopping about an inch short. So I played with the torque and can get it to fully extend when the clamp is tightened 3.25nm. Seems very temperamental.

Could the cable be binding? I can’t feel it at the lever. And when post height is higher, it doesn’t solve the issue.

Pressure too low?

Anyone have ideas or experience?

31.6mm diameter, 100mm travel
clamp at almost max insertion depth (just 4mm under where they reduce tube diameter).

Torque at 5N.m and the seatpost travel slowed down somewhere near top out.
Reduce the torque to 4.5N.m and it's totally good for me. Then I recheck the recommended torque spec of my seatpost clamp and it's only 4N.m. Oops, I mistake it as 5 for a while before I install my dropper post.

Also, play with the pressure. Higher isn't always better. Too high require a lot of lever effort so you end up not engaging it fully, thought it's fully pressed when it's not.
Mine work best at 265psi.

That makes it sound like whomever installed the bike possibly over-torqued it, crushing the tube slightly.

Do you have to put air in it yourself ?

Try a different seatpost clamp like the one from Bike Yoke or Intend. These are better at evening out clamping pressure. Otherwise check the fit in the seat tube, it may be reamed too big. Or the seatpost is a dud. But apart from binding in the cable, low air pressure and all that, carbon paste and lower the torque. The Motorex version won’t make scratches.
All these lightweight droppers are more sensitive to clamping pressure - the Fox Transfer SL too (owned both).

Thank you so much. I got Bike Yoke seatpost collar and their silicone dust protector. It does help. On my old clamp, I have to use 4-4.5 N.m so that the seatpost extend 98% reliably. At 5N.m it's down to 95% reliably which is unacceptable.

With Bike Yoke seatpost collar at 4.5 Nm, it's still 100% reliable so far.

I didn't buy Motorex carbon paste though. I use Effetto Mariposa Carbogrip instead.
