Bike trip suggestions?

OK, I haven't had a vacation in a long time, I'm tired, unmotivated and always late for work... You all know what I mean? I need some time off. I was thinking about what I should do, a trip in the south and get some sun, alcohol and exotic women? Naaa, not my style. Maybe a bike trip would be nice. Yes that's it!

So I'm looking for a get away trip, organized or not, Europe? USA? BC, Canada? Wherever, someplace where there are good trails (XC, not too easy but I don't want to die either). I plan to go late September - early October for about two weeks, I'll be alone, hopefully meet new nice people, I have my bikes but maybe it would be less hassle to rent a decent bike there. I don't have a driving license so that might complicate things a bit. I'm in my late (very late!) 20's, from Montreal, Canada, I speak French, English, and just enough German to order beer and be almost polite...

So, anybody has suggestions, tips, tricks, or a summer house I can borrow? :D

Some freinds and I are contemplating a camping trip on the C&O canal.http://www.bikewashington.org/canal/ Although its like a rail to trail ride its 184 miles. We plan on dropping 3 cars along the route and doing it in a three day weekend. This is probably not what your looking for for a mountain bike ride but I think it might be fun.

I'm already doing something like that, I'll be in Maine the first week-end of september with a few friends. What I'm looking for is more like a vacation. I found a few road rides with plane tickets and meals in Europe for very cheap but I'd rather be mountain biking...
