Hi, a co-worker of mine is currently looking for a new bike. She doesn't know much about bikes but she's really getting tired of her crappy ccm. She's looking for more of a ''hybrid'' bike if you know what i mean ( A light bike with those somewhat skinny tires that can still go in trails). I know this may not be in the right section of the forum, I just didn't know where to post :p

She's willing to spend around 600-700$ canadian

Thank you for your time

Why is this a passion subject? You passionate about this girl? Why don't you want to give her any advice of your own? Need the help of all the hybrid lurkers here?

Try posting this question in the forums: What Bike To Buy and perhaps in the Women's Lounge.

I'm sure either will offer some good suggestions.

a cross bike with straight bars is just the ticket - for the most versatile all rounder make sure it's got fender eyelets for panniers and fenders

post at RBR commuting section for advice on a practical bike

a rigid Specialised Hard Rock with street slicks might be perfect - avoid suspension on low end bikes as the suspension is crap, heavy and usually totally unnecessary

I agree that lower end suspension is pretty much a gimmick. It is hard to convince some newer riders of that however. A cross bike would be a good way to go if she could handle that style of geometry on the trails...definitely fast and light.

Or you could do what I did and look into a Karate Monkey

I think you want her. I don't blame you. I hate falling into that "just friends" thing. Happened to me once also. I agree with the Karate Monkey suggestion also. You might be able to break through and show her how much you really love her. Maybe she will reciprocate and you will live happily ever after.
