Bike Storage Options in South Lake Tahoe

3130 Views 27 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Cary
Headed to South Lake Tahoe for the weekend and was hoping to bring my bike. I called my hotel (montbleu) and they dont offer any bike storage options other than a bike rack outside. Storing in my room isnt an option either.

What are my options other than what i mentioned above?

I ignore the signs and take my bikes in with me. Perhaps contact over the edge and see if you can pay to store your bike overnight.

If i was by myself id probably do that but im with the gf 😅. Will give them a call. Im happy to pay to make it worth their while if an lbs would be open to it.
I’ve had good luck with having a shop do a simple repair that they can get done in the time frame I need and picking it up when complete. Not sure this will work for you, it’s usually an extended period of time for me.
But don’t we have to get to the real issue here. Do you want to continue a relationship with a woman who’s against bikes in the room? Sounds like a deal breaker😛
Just kidding. Good luck!

Make sure you don't leave your bike unattended even for a coupe minutes. So many stories of stolen bikes in the Tahoe/Truckee area. For sure get that thing into your hotel room. Don't leave it on your car for sure and don't leave it in your car unless you can get it in your trunk and out of sight. Local bike shop might be your best option unless you can find a local willing to let you lock it up in their garage. I don't have any friends in SLT or I'd hook you up.

Bring it in the room anyways. Bikes don't take up that much room.

It is a legitimate question and something that should be considered. Even my ex wife who gave me grief about virtually everything didn’t ever argue about me bringing my bike in the hotel. It may have been motivated by greed, she didn’t want it to be stolen and me to spend money on buying another. :)

Seriously though, a partner that is not supportive of your hobbies is a recipe for problems. My current wife doesn’t ride, but accepts my bike problem. I don’t care about plants, but don’t complain about the large number of nurseries she goes to or the number of plants she buys.

Tahoe Sports Limited is the closest shop to you: Tahoe Sports ltd
They are very much in winter mode, but that is the first shop I would ask just for ease of access.
Over the Edge Tahoe is closed for the year... All the other shops are a bit of a drive. Depending on your needs you might want to go into the Sports Limited and just offer the mechanic a $20 tip or something.

Sounds like a keeper.
A six pack of quality brew to the nearest shop can work wonders.

OP- easier to ask forgiveness than gain permission.
I've stayed at MB with bikes in the past.
Just check in first and go up to your room.
Then, go back down and wheel your bike up the to the room.
If/when stopped- unlikely, but it could happen, try the following:
-I've already checked in...
-Depending on response... do you have the insurance to cover bike theft if I check it as baggage with the concierge?
-Depending on response... this is just luggage. I have already checked in. Bike needs secured storage...and keep walking and rolling your bike to the room.

Although inconvenient, you can also remove the wheels and store the frame in-doors and store the wheels in trunk.

A hotel in Moab said they would fine me $100. I told them to go ahead. They wouldn’t assume responsibility for my bike if I locked it in their storage.

This is a funny topic in my house. The entire time my wife and I have been together we travel for mtbing. I ride, she doesn’t much… and like above poster’s wife she loves plants/gardening. With the exception of maybe a few times, the bike always comes along and sits in the room. Now with 3boys, we usually have a few more. It’s expected, and she usually shuttles us too. It’s always been expected that bikes go in, and she’s used to it. Same with bike racks on all vehicles we own. Haha

On SLT- we have gone there many times, last time was this summer. I have always brought my bikes in. The theft in SLT is crazy and I won’t risk it. Years ago I left my giant AC1 attached to a trunk rack with a cable lock and it was still there in the casino parking lot after a quick breakfast. I think those days are long gone.
Thanks to everyone who chimed in. I ended up renting from from tahoe sports ltd. Hit kingsbury stinger and a few others in the area. Was my first time riding in SLT and it definitely left me wishing I had more time to explore.
