Hello everybody, I'm Marco from Italy.
I will be on vacation in the USA in september and I will spend a couple of days in S. Francisco. I can't resist the tentation of buying a new bike there, I also think there could be good bargains in that period.
Could anyone tell me where I can find good bike shops in San Francisco?
Thank you

Marco

Well, bargains might be hard to find. Some good shops are:

Vision Cyclery SF - For Downhill / Freeride - In the Haight District, near Golden Gate Park on Stanyan St.

City Cycle - High-end road & mountain - think titanium, Se7en Cycles, Serotta, custom, etc - Pacific Heights district, Union Street and Steiner.

Roaring Mouse Cycles - Owned by an MTBR'er. Small friendly shop with some high-end bikes like Titus. MTB & Road. Sunset District, Irving St & 15th ave.

All have websites if you do a quick search.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I thought that in september the 2005 bikes will be out so I will find sales on the 2004 models,am I wrong? I am looking for a trailbike, maybe a Turner 5 spot. I'll look on the shops websites.

If that's the bike you want

you should call the guys at 123bikes.com, get it built how you want, and pick it up while you're here. They're four hours driving from SF just over the California border in Nevada, in the heart of the best mountain biking in the far west. If you buy in sunny CA you have to pay an extra 8.25% to help put my kids through school.

Their $3300 build is pretty good, but I'd want Hayes Brakes.

All those shops mentioned are really good though. Especially Roaring Mouse.

Hi Eddy,
I will travel by bus (greentortoise) so I don't know if I'll be able to go and pick the bike at 123bikes...plus,I would like to test the bike to be sure it fits me,so a shop in SF would be better...even if the 8.25% tax is bad news for me (and good for your kids). Unfortunately the shops mentioned don't seem to sell Turner frames.
I still could buy online, have the bike shipped to a friend of mine in Milpitas and pick it up from him, but again I wouldn't test the bike to see if it fits. Sorry to bother you with these problems of mine!
Thanks for the advice

Marco,

123bikes.com would be willing to pay for your trip up to Tahoe and give you a night for 2 at a nice International Hotel on Park Ave in South Lake Tahoe at the base of the Gun Barrel run so you can really get a test ride in! We'll take you on a great ride on your new 5 Spot in a place you can speak of as if you were visiting Courmeyer.

Let us know when you will be arriving and the itinerary for your stay and we'll make plans to get you to Tahoe and see a very beautiful region of Western America while having the experience of your life building and buying your new dream bike to take back with you.

Trip to Tahoe

Hmm, that would be great! But I have no time to stay in Tahoe in september...I will be visiting S.Francisco for two days and then depart with the tortoise bus, then get the plane to Italy the day we are back in SF! If you could pay for my trip to Tahoe from Italy I would come this weekend!
Thank you

Marco,

How about flying into S.F. a few days earlier? I'll (123bikes.com) personally pick you up and drive you to Tahoe. We can certainly put you up for a few days before you need to catch your tour bus. Plus, you'll be in the area during the best time of the year (Sept.) for riding in Tahoe. Most people are back home getting ready for the school season so there will be a less amount of folks to get in your way. Super colors with the sunsets and the mountains are gorgeous this time of year.

You'll probably just blow off the tour and stay in Tahoe to ride and gamble at the Casino's! HA! We'll take you to Northstar too.

Hey! If there's anyone else out there looking to get into a new custom bike, we offer a trip to Tahoe to pick it up too. Just "Contact us" and we'll work out some details on the trip.

If you go to www.123bikes.com and click on "Contact us" then we can work out some details to get you into that new dream bike and include a few days of test riding and finalizing your setup.

Cool offer by 123bikes...by the way, as an S.F. resident, I can tell you that you will not find a Turner that you can buy off the rack. The bike business is too tought for shops to stock highend stuff. Charlie at Vision tries, but it's hard and selection will be very limited.

I would seriously consider the Tahoe offer!
