What are you doing for bike insurance? I have renter's insurance so that covers the bike at my apartment (fire, theft, etc.). But I was wondering about traveling with my bike. If I put it on my trunk rack and get into an accident, does car insurance cover it? What if the other person is at fault? Is there general bike insurance to cover catastrophies? Some people have a lot of money invested in their bikes. I'm just wondering if there's any peace of mind to be found out there. Thanks.

I think the only way you'll get auto insurance to cover your bike is if your buddy is riding it, and you hit him. Otherwise, bike damage would have to be mentioned specifically in the policy.

Renter's insurance should cover you, even on the road, but again I'd double check with the carrier.

Best case scenario perhaps is using the same reputable carrier for both auto and home, to avoid any finger pointing should you take a hit while driving.
