Bike for Double Peak

Just moved to San Marcos near Double Peak and I'm looking for advice on a good bike for the steeps and chunk (roller coaster, hitler's ballsack, bush bang, etc). I have a 100mm xc bike (67.8 HA) that I've taken there but it's rough and sketch.

Thinking about Stumpy Evo or plain Stumpy. Or a nomad but not sure I want to pedal that beast for 30+ miles.

Love me some Santee Mel Brooks, Anderson, San Clemente, Miramar Berms, Crest/Wally's, Cuyamaca, La Costa. I haven't ridden Ted's much but definitely enjoyed it. Also recently got a tour of Calavera and rode some scary tech. Hoping a bigger bike will help my confidence on the steep drops and rock rolls...

you ride all that and type all that and need help with a bike choice? call Chainline. they have Yeti's in stock now.

Yeah, I get paralysis by analysis...
Personally I would say SB150 or Enduro if that is the riding you really enjoy. You can definitely put those bikes to use in North County. You have La Costa, DP and Elfin right there. The SB150 would be a weapon for sure. The SJ Evo is an excellent choice as well and could built up a little lighter than the SB150. I have ridden it all on both my SJ Evo and Enduro. You get more feedback and have to be a little more on your game, but the Evo can be ridden just as quickly. Just depends on if you want a more playful bike or more of a plow bike.

My SJ was down waiting for parts a few weeks ago so I took my Enduro on a 35 mile pure XC ride looping Hodges down towards Black Mountain and back (we didn't ride BM proper, just skirted to lower slope). The bike was excellent the whole way and I really didn't feel like I was at a disadvantage relative to my SJ.

One last note, I would not consider the regular SJ for that type of riding. It is not a geo issue, the suspension just gets overwhelmed once the speed goes up. Fantastic bike, but not the best application for it.

I ride calavera weekly on an intense spider 275, aside from some poorly built jump lines I can rock everything on a 5 inch travel bike. I don’t Personally think anything more extreme is needed for San Diego riding.

+1 for chain line bikes, worth the drive down to El Cajon.
Travel is not going to help much at Calaveras since the speeds off the water tower are so low. Nothing else out there really requires more than a 130 bike either.

There are plenty of places to use a bigger bike in North County though. Roller Coaster and Krunk Rock at DP are good examples. They can be ridden at lower speeds and I have done them on my SJ, but those types of trails are way more fun at the speeds you can achieve with the SJ Evo or Enduro.

I have not ridden those trails myself, so I cannot comment on them.
I've ridden double peak my fair share of times, though nowhere near the amount of SP who lives nearby. The black diamond trails mentioned off DP itself are awesome on an Enduro bike (I rode them on an Enduro 29er in the past) but I found that type of bike to be overkill for everything else in the area. I've found a mid travel bike with aggressive geo to be perfect for almost everything, but you do have to dial bike the speeds a little on the truly gnarly stuff compared to an Enduro.
