You couldn't have picked a better time for upgrading. Tons of used out there, tons of new deals, great tech, and so forth.

Ouch, man, that hurts. I see it was one of the later mag dropouts, too. Dang. What are you going to do? Search out a parts bike, buy an entire bike, get something new?

How did it happen? Did it just finally give up, or was there an impact involved?

Just ridding along......over a stone bridge built over a log, came down fast and hard on the other side and snap! Not sure if the derailleur hit and snapped the dropout or if the dropuot itself just snapped. I'm not sure what the next move is. I may watch e-bay for dropouts, another entire 4-Banger frame is out of the question. If I'm gonna spend that kind of $ I'll watch for something new around $500 (seems to be some good XC deals out there) and start to part out the frame.... Maybe 207 lbs geared up was a little too much for those mag dropouts? The trails out here in PA are pretty rough too.

I don't think I've ever seen dropouts for sale without the rest of the bike. If you decide to part out your 4B stuff, could you let me know?

If I see anything that might help you, I'll let you know. Do you care if the dropouts are the earlier aluminum ones? The majority of 4B's I see are the coil-sprung, "v1.0" models. The 2000's and/or Straight 6's seem a lot less common.

You should also be able to get it directly from the manufacturer.

Thanks for that link, hardwarz. I'm bookmarking that one, esp since I was thinking of stocking up on a d-hanger after my buddy bent one the other day and didn't have a spare. The hanger design on the mag ones uses that tiny little attachment screw (#3 at hardwarz's link). I thought that was the world's smallest screw for that application. Weird. The other design is #7, using a more normal screw.

So you've got the easy half; now for the difficult part to find.
