Bike Dancing - do you?.. why?.. what do you mean its dangerous?

Alright, I'll admit it, on more than one occasion I've been moved enough to engage in this disturbing practice. I pack my 30gb zune in the mp3 pocket of my Camelbak h.a.w.g. and head out to some trails, almost daily. On some occasions when the song strikes me, I get into a rhythm and go with it.. usually involving head bobbing, side-to-side shifting with the pedals, swerving, and bouncing on my front sus...

On rare occasions neighbors have reported hearing someone belt out lines like "Can you take me.. HIGH ENOUGH" out of a high speed vehicle of some kind on our street, but the offender has never been caught...

Paved walking paths in forest & along the creek can get boring, and frankly, after a Maple Nut or Oatmeal Raisin Walnut clif bar, you gotta burn the energy somehow

I know.. I'm odd.. but I cant be the only one out there ! :D

totally not the only one...i was belting out some 50 cent the other day coming downhill when i rounded the bend into two hikers, i took off my headphones and we had a good laugh about it...apparently my singing/rapping warned them of an incoming biker and to get off the trail.

When i bike alone my music set my tempo and my turns, nothing makes me feel more in tune to the world.

Favorite song to blast downhill to currently? Drunken lullabies by flogging molly.

I need to get an arm strap for my zune however so i can change the song when i want...going over the bars while eleanor rigby by the beatles blasts in your ears is kind of disconcerning.

lol.. Drunken Lullaby is in my collection too. But i went the opposite route from you with regards to arm strap. I had to pull mines tight against my good sized bicep, and I ended up causing circulation problems where one had went numb before the other.. this is before I owned the camelbak.. so I just listed the playlist like I wanted and turned shuffle off.

I got stuff from just about every genre and a half dozen languages.. the only one I find difficult to penetrate is country.. From Gregorian Monk chanting to Golden Earing :D

... the worst thing that has happened so far is someone rode by me as I was swerving to Mono - Life in Mono and I almost nicked em.. was a flying roadie who picked a line just small enough to sneak by, instead of giving room, there was a lot of room, so I didnt feel guilty.

wicked song man, i havde the album...

check out streetlight manifesto if you havent already...some awesome songs to ride to..lots of horns
Can't say I really dance on my bike. I don't have an mp3 player.

But when start getting tired going up a long hill on my SS, I just start singing to myself: Queen - Don't stop me now.

Gives me a little extra energy. lol
I never ride without tunes...

on the trails, this translates to moving with the rhythm, but on the street, lotsa dancing on the straights.
Hell, dancing was a factor in my getting the hang of riding hands free, the weird looks I get are totally worth it.

..... Golden Earing :D

.....
X2

I don't get to ride with music that often, since my bf usually rides with me, and it would be kinda rude.... but, when I do put on some tunes, I tend to get very influenced by the tunes...

probably get the best workout with sepultura, cannibal corpse, generally fast and angry.... for a longer, epic XC ride, golden earring is awesome....

No bike dancing or singing though, but the "UGH" sounds when coming off drops is not as controlled because I can't hear myself very well :p

You're tired... you've been riding uphill for a while and can feel the acid move in and out of your calves.. and you're locking up.. and then you hear THIS:

I'm fallin' down a spiral..., destination unknown
A double cross messenger...., all alone
Can't get no connection.., can't get through.., where are you

Well the night weighs heavy on his guilty mind
This far from the border line
And when the hitman comes
He knows damn well.. he has been cheated
And he says

Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone

And its like.. holy crap... where was this energy hiding, I feel no pain!.. Bring... it.. OOOOONNNN! :D

Your BF is a lucky man.

One of the MANY reasons I NEVER ride with music players.

The rhythm of the trail and my own body is all I need. Sometimes that suggests a song which I sing to myself. but it is always in keeping with the situation and not forced upon it.
I'm going to guess this is why that kid at the bike shop hates you.

I was waiting for this statement, haha. But I dont think so, nothing has gone wrong and the regular riding is much more intense.. sometimes the fork kicks up and down like a jackhammer on some really bumpy or pine-cone covered runs.

I dont bottom out the fork or even use the brakes during this, lol
I don't dance on the bike or off the bike, but I do listen to music on the trail... I guess I just live for the danger. ;)
I do this too. The best is powder+trees+skiis+Music, that is so trippy. Preferably Dispatch.

Cake's The Distance is the best interval music ever made imho
