Bike Cams - Help Wanted!

Got done lifting and am a bit tired and hungry :cryin: but wanted to get this post out of the way.

I am curious as to which bike camera would be the best to get? I have not rode for quit some time due to a knee injury that made me limp and unable to ride for 5 years because of my last bike accident. :madman: Well, now I am feeling a lot better and am interested in mtn biking. Recently I have bought myself a DB Response to get me started again. I love cross country riding and would love to start filming my trips off road. I see a lot of riders filming their trips and tricks and whatnot and it seems pretty fun and makes me so jealous! :D

Was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction as to what type of bike cam I should get? I'm not hardcore so I don't care for the fancy expensive cams.

I came across the GoPro Hero WIDE Camera Motorsport 5MP and it seems like the one I need but was curious if the card is changeable? (32 GB card /drool) Is it cheaply made? Does it drain batteries like crazy? or if it's not as good as some other cameras I have not yet found? etc.

Thanks in advance!

I'd say you can't go wrong with either a GoPro Hero Wide, or a

Vholdr ContourHD.
depends on what your want to do
the hero cams have no screen so you cant tell untill you get home if your shot was any good or not, also several of my friends have issues with the batteries in cold weather

secondly, a video with nothing but helmet cam is boring. Check out any proffessional video , very little helmet cam

I saw over the Christmas sales small handheld real video cams for $200 or less. they are close to the hero in size(with the case) and they can be handheld or mounted with a simple screw attachment so you can get various angles and types of shots, plus they have a viewfinder/screen
I'll check that out, Net Wurker! Ty.

Dan0, I'll find a way to put it on the handle bar or wherever else and not the helmet. :p I have no problem taking it home and checking it on my pc. :)

I did come across ATC Action Cams and curious if anyone has or know if they are any good?

I shall continue to browse and hope more share their opinions and what they had/have.
Reasonably good deal to be had on the Vholdr HD.

The price was a bit lower about a week ago. check out this thread:

Still not a bad deal at $179. If you wait the price may go down again.

If you look at the videos it seems like it's nice to have at least 720p. The new version of the camera has 1080p at 30 frames per second, or 720p at 60 frames per second which would be nice, but when I got mine that almost doubled the price.

Because of the shape of the Gopro cameras it seems like they would be awkward to mount on your helmet, while the Vholdr seems like a very nice form factor for that purpose. Both are very nice cameras.

Thanks, Texas. I'll take a looksie.

Edit: I'll look any cam that is bar mounted and not helm mounted.

thats not what I meant
the helmet mount is ok , its just the perspective of the one view thats boring after awhile
watch a good video of mtn bikeing and you'll see alot of different angles but very few of bike or helmet mount . you need tripod and handheld positions from several angles to make a good video in my opinion

I knew what you meant and I did watch a few mtn bike videos on here and I do have some accessory sites booked marked so I may get other angel captures. :p
