I have always owed XC race bikes, hardtail( now gone) and a 3" race bike and use the race tires that go with them. I parted out the hardtail becauce my 3" travel race bike pedals so great I never rode the hardtail anymore. I am just finishing a 5"x 5" bike and looking for a larger tire maybe a 2.35 with a resonable weight ~ < 650 grams to run in the front range, The biggest tires I have run in the past is a 2.25 nobby Nic and a Michelin 2.2 ALL Mountain any thoughts on somw BIGGER tires ?? Thanks !!

2.4 Nobby Nic

The NN is a true 2.25 (slightly larger than Kenda's 2.35s) and 600g (150/200g lighter than the Kendas). The 2.4 Racing Ralph is aroung 50g lighter than the Nobby Nic, same width and noticably faster and less aggressive while built on the same carcass. I'm running the NN on both ends of my 5x5 bike in So. Cal. and it works well in hard and soft dry conditions at 30 psi. My SS has the 2.4 Racing Ralph which works very well in a strait line in the same conditions but dosn't corner well except on clean hardpack or slickrock. The Kends are great tires but I've found no advantage to them that justifies the extra weight and slightly smaller size when compared to the NN. The biggest problem with the NN is finding them.

The Michelin All Mountain 2.20 Is one of the largest/highest volume tires on the market. In the same range as most 2.4-2.6 tires.
Shiggy, what about the 2.3 hutchinson Spider ? performance is blowing them out at $17.95 ? Is hutchinson discontinuing the Spider? Also any thoughts on the 2.5 Continetal Gravity ? I ride many loose over hardpack on the front range of Colorado
