I just changed the tires on my fixed cross check I went from 35c trailmix ritchey's, to a 42c pair of irc mythos, when I lift up the bike it doesn't feel a lot heavyer, but my 39/16 gear feels quite a bit harder. I have changed to heavier tires on different bikes, with a freewheel and I didn't feel as much of a change. I guess I'll probably change my cog to a 17 or an 18 so I can ride eiser off road with the big tires.
Does the weight of the tire or the increased height of the tire make it roll slower, and make the gear feel harder, and why would the change in tire make more of a difference on a fixed bike, compared to a freewheel single speed, or was my gear just too tall to begin with and the bigger tires, just make it enough harder to need a lower gear. The trails I've been ridding it on are not very hilly, and not too technicial.
