I'm all for the bashing of just all sorts of things on Facebook but this one is pretty ridiculous and just down right stupid. Of all the things to have a fan page for...The only good thing is there are a few pro-cycling people in there that are mixing things up a bit in the discussion area (Go Kurt Harmer!) Anyway lets just hope that since the last activity on the page was back in November hopefully it will just get lost on the wide world of Facebook. Just for the record I reported it as well on FB with a brief reasoning behind the stupidity of the page, that probably won't yield any results but its worth a try.

I reported it and explained how it is against Facebook policy. The page advocates murder and it in general is not protected by the first amendment since it falls under the fighting words doctrine.

I wonder how long a "God hates ****" or "Kill the ******" page would stay up.

In all seriousness, this falls under the same thing as the "Soldiers aren't Heroes" group - its stupid, but its still free speech, and taking away their group won't change the ignorance of any of these people.

Freedom of speech doesn't apply to this page because it uses hate speech to incite harming cyclist and threats to kill cyclist. I'm not attorney, but I'm pretty sure this stuff is prohibited under the limitations on freedom of speech.

Plus this page goes against FB's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities ( located at: http://www.facebook.com/help/#/terms.php ) , so it can and should be shutdown:

3. Safety
-- 6. You will not bully, intimidate, or harass any user.
-- 7. You will not post content that is hateful, threatening, pornographic, or that contains nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence.
-- 10. You will not use Facebook to do anything unlawful, misleading, malicious, or discriminatory.

I totally agree.After briefly viewing the page,I see how us cyclists can get bent over it,but I don't give this kind of ignorance a second thought.Just look at the source of where,and who it's coming from guys.It seems that they have pretty miserable lives to the point where it results in having to hate "something" in order to feel like their opinions matter to the rest of us.....

Let them hate...let us ride on.As they say ..to each his own.I actually pity the cyclist haters.It just shows a tremendous level of mental underdevelopment.Either way,I still,and always will enjoy every ride I go on.As they sit there *****ing,with a frown on there faces,I continue to ride with a smile on mine.If the cyclist haters have a problem with that,then,it's their issue not mine...:thumbsup:

I don't know if anyone else has done it, but I reported it to Facebook as a violation. I said their rhetoric, trying to be humorous or not, can and will result in cyclists being severely injured and/or killed. We'll see if FB reacts...

Also, freedom of speech only prevents the government from censoring what you say. If a private institution like Facebook doesn't like it, they can shut it down.

forget about it. Stupid people will always be stupid and shutting down their hate mongering page will only make them hate you more.

I think a better use of that page is to alert the authorities so they can check the membership every time a cyclist gets hit to see if the cager is a "card carrying bike hater" with a chip on their shoulder.
