between the 2, which is the better deal or are they both good which is my guess

$800 for the following new bikes:

* Surly Karate Monkey (note: basically same/comparable parts as on a new Rig). comes with KM rigid fork in this case.
* New Rig.

Cheers,

if it comes with the Reba and the KM comes with the rigid fork. You'll be able to pick up a rigid fork later for the RIG much cheaper than you'll be able to pick up a Reba for the KM.
good point.....plus, i am probably gonna replace the KM fork on my One 9 anyway and could just keep it instead of selling it. now....i just need to look behind the pillows in my couches to see if i can scramble up the $800 for the bike

I was going to post about this ver same question, however I was more looking at the bikes at MisfitPsycles against the RIG. The Misfits are currently only 26" bikes but there is a pre-order option on a new 29" that will be out in the spring.

When I priced the Misfits bike I could get a complete 26" bike with White Bros. Shocks, Stylos crank, and using the Misfits build kit, and use V-Brakes for about the same price as a new GF Rig.

Makes me think, How can these frames that you build-up with your own choosen parts compete with a bike like the RIG?

I'd go Rig

I don't like track ends/horizontal dropouts/whatever you wanna call 'em paired with disc brakes.

And I refuse to suffer the inadequacies of V-brakes.

So I'd go with the Rig. I might put a rigid fork on the Rig, but I'd still rather have a Rig frame over a KM frame.

My $2.49.

I'm gonna try and spend a bit more than half that for that supposed new Redline Monocog. If I use the balance to score a Reba, I can have my steel frame AND a front squisher.
that is a good idea except for 2 fundamental reasons: (1) it requires patience to have to wait for the Redline, and (2) it is far too logical

My suggestion is: A new J.Jones custom Ti with all the trimmings for Christmas.

thanks Rainman for always watching my back.

you know....you are probably right. so long as I did not spend money on another bike while waiting for the JJ to be complete, I would actually spend A LOT less than I tend to do based on my pathetic typical spending patterns. While it would take a lot longer, I would actually hold on to more money for the time being.

thanks again for the tip!

..S'ok mate..

I knew you would appreciate my suggestion, Fo ... seeing as you are such a logical, sensible and frugal kind of guy just like me who carefully thinks about everything that he buys and never just rushes in and spends money because he is addicted to bikes... :)

Of course, the little woman would be happier too, seeing as there would be a bit more room in the house for her things.. :)

Logical .... like I said.. :)

not to mention, those pictures posted by Aquadouche for his JJ, not to mention the ones he sends me regularly via email which are even more incredible, does make me want that piece of art in my collection.

I wonder who I can bribe to give me their place in the JJ waiting list up near the top...??? There must be someone... R.
yep I tried the same thing with a buddy in line, scheduled for mid-06 I think. As of this writing, he ain't budging. Selfish bastard! Meanwhile he has to make do with his Moots until the JJ arrives. Or his I.F., or his....
