hey everyone, I'm going to be getting married in April and I was wondering about the best places to bike/backpack in the upper-midwest. we need a good honeymoon spot and I'm thinking like, montana, idaho, wyoming...not colorado because we're gonna move there within the next year or so. or maybe oregon...any suggestions? probably not SD because that's where I'm from and I've seen it all and not ND because it's too flat...mountains are good...any suggestions would be helpful. thanks.

Many of those states I would consider to be "western" rather than midwestern, but seeing as you have already ruled out the actual midwestern states, lets look at the ones that you have left on the list.

Montana and Wyoming both have some really great riding. Particularly around Butte and Bozeman MT, and Jackson WY. For a honeymoon, Jackson my be the way to go. You may even be fortunate and get some late season skiing in. Which brings up the other factor in those areas. Don't be surprised to get hit by some late season snow.

I don't know enough about the other areas to form an educated opinion.

Dont over look ND so quick

Now I know that there's probably better riding in the mountains, but the Maah Daah Hey trail running through 100 miles of ND badlands is an awsome trail. I was ridding out there all this summer while working in Medora. The other thing you may want to consider is the fact that you're going in April, because the mountains could still be snowpacked.

ND too flat??? Never been to Medora and the...

Maah Daah Hey have you? I would not rule it out! The wife and I take a trip there every fall to ride. Sweet single track, and lots of it. The only problem with that time frame is rain. If you hit the spring rains riding is impossible due to the lignite clay mud that the trails become! Sticks like super glue and dries like iron. But if the weather is good the riding is choice.
