Define "won't break the bank"

I think a hand built wheel using Mavic XM819 (for ust) or a Stan's Arch/Flow (for tubeless with standard tires) are the best choices.

What hubs and spokes you spec would determine the overall price.

$400 gets you a set of 819's on Hope Pro II's with DT Comp's from CRC. I'd do something along those lines.

$440 gets you Stans Crest tubless rims on their "in house" hubs - go with the heavier spokes for all mountain, still around 1400g for the set...

I don't think any 1400g wheelset qualifies as all mountain. A 340g rim is NOT what I'd want on an AM rig.

I'd definitely steer clear of those. 24h front, 28h rear. Used. Machine or hand built? How many miles? How heavy a rider? On what terrain? Lots of unknowns with used wheels, and with fewer spokes, less margin for abuse/neglect.

I'd still do something new, handbuilt, by someone reputable from good off-the-shelf components.
