Soaked almonds work the best for me. I soak almonds in water the night before my ride then in the morning drain the water and allow to dry for 10-15 minutes on paper towel. The almonds chew way easier and are digested much faster.
Four of us went on a 6 hour ride last week that got harder as the ride went on. At hour 5 we were all bagged so I hauled out the rest of my almonds and divided them up. We all felt the boost and they got us down.
