Best Trail in AZ?

8018 Views 103 Replies 28 Participants Last post by  FJSnoozer
This video was posted on the 'MTB AZ' Facebook page with the title..."This is the Best Trail in Arizona. How does it stack up Nationally"?

I guess it's a brand new trail out at the Hawes trail system. Has anybody ridden it yet? If so, I assume you have an opinion of your own?

Looks killer, but above the pay grade of an aging dude on a 120mm hard tail, so I'll just have to admire from afar.

Great title to drum up interest and debate, regardless of being the "best" trail in AZ or not. Kudos to HTA and everyone for all the hard work out there! Hoping to ride it in the next week or so.

I was already on TF looking for the best route into the trail. I've only ridden twice and always on the last day before heading back home so never enough time to figure the place out. Now that I'm much closer (Prescott), I'm looking forward to getting down there for some more in-depth exploration.
Cool trail, lots of extremely hard work. Doesn’t hold a candle to Sedona radness or some stuff in Flag.

Looks to be a fun trail but it reminds me of South MTn too much with the rock sections.

Best trail "anywhere" is always up for debate. Looks like one to hit next time I'm in AZ.

What HTA is doing out there is really awesome. I will check it out real soon, maybe tomorrow.

That’s my kind of trail, super tech, climbing, features, nice job!

Only 650 hours, that’s not much for what you folks accomplished 👍
Looks like an awesome trail! Well freakin' done.
=sParty
I love The Tanks so that's right my alley.

Hawes along the south edge, to Cactus Garden. Its about 1200' of climbing, some steeper spots, not a ton of hard techy climbing though. Last time I did it, it was a very laid back pace with lots of breaks to stop and chat. Took about 1hr 15mins, to get to the top.

Mine at the bottom of Sunset is a fun techy trail too. So ride that back out to Power Rd and then make another climb to do Red Mt Rush.
Sweet, I know what I'm riding next month.
Looks rad!!! Nice work HTA. Hopefully I can ride it when I head down there this December.
Cool to see hard trail being made. All I get is another flow trail.
I am a little worried that all the people who got into mtb cause of Covid aren’t going to like it, so maybe you could smooth out 95% of it for them. 😀

Believe it or not, most of the newbie COVID'ers where I came from in SoCal (moved late last year) were actually millennials who liked the tougher enduro type trails but they don't like to climb so they love the lifts in Big Bear. An area in Murietta known as Greer Ranch aka The Nursery aka The Garden aka 215 Enduro trails blew up because it was the only "legal" place to ride because it wasn't on land owned by the State, County or City as most of the trails had been built illegally on private property. The other side of the newbies liking the tougher trails is I've never seen more gnarly injuries to such a large proportion of a riding group. The pandemic spawned a couple FB groups and those guys are constantly posting up their hospital photos. The wear it like a badge of honor.

Meh. Kind of like a neutered National trail. Might be fun on a hardtail, like everything else at Hawes.

Looks like a good climb at least
