Just picked up some used I9 Industry Nine Enduro wheels w/ DT Swiss EX 5.1d rims. I plan to use the Stan UST conversion kit. I am an 185# XC rider. Mostly slalom type rides like China camp in marin, Joaquin Miller in east bay, Granite bay in Sac. Also the occasional more technical trail like Downiville DH or NURT in OR.

I was thinking of some:

Conti Mountain king 2.4 UST in front

Conti Race king 2.2 UST in back

Will these fit well on the 5.1D rim?

All thoughts welcome.

I am totally new to UST and would value any other idea before I buy the tires.

tnx

hey tothemax1,
I recently mounted up Conti RQ 2.4 UST(front) and Conti MK 2.4 UST(rear) to EX500's(new name for 5.1d) using the Stans kit with great success. The Conti's were pretty tight going on, but the beads seated fine and sealed right up.

Ì´ve two wheelsets using EX5.1 rims and there are tubeless tires in both sets. I tried Stan`s tubeless kit, but didn`t like Stan`s solution where valve is integrated to rimstrip, because if there`s need to use inner tyre (tube) for some reason, you`ll have to take whole rimstrip away and if there`s no tape below, open holes in rim can explode tube ... Many have good experiences with Stans, but I´ll use now only tape (two layers) and hard one DT Swiss rimstrip, not that soft one included in DT`s own tubeless kits ...

But to on_topic - I´ve never had any problems with any UST-tyres or any Tubeless / UST-ready tyres with those rims. I´ve used RQ`s (tubeless ones and normal versions too), UST - Race Kings and probably 20 other tires without problems and I`m sure that if you`ll manage to seal spokeholes and valve using what_ever solution you`ll choose, EX5.1 is as good tubeless rim that any "real" tubeless rim. I´ve not found any difference between EX5.1`s and for example Mavic EX823, which I also use.
