Not sure this is the exact spot to post but I am looking for some recommendations on how to store my bikes in my garage. I would like them to take up as little space as possible and also be able to lock them.

I have been looking at hooks that hold the rear wheel but I am concerned about how it might affect my Racer X. It’s a full floater with a rear suspension and a Mavic Crossmax wheels. Anybody had negative affects hanging full floater bikes? Any experience in general?

Other Ideas?

Keep the rubber on the trail.

I use this invention called a wall and lean it against that. If you want to lock it you could lock it around a work bench or something.

When hung upside down/sideways, some forks will have issues with the lockout and damping for the first few cycles. Goes away after a minute or two anyways.

As for damage, not that I can think of. Unless you had really fragile wheels...?

I built a rack that is bolted to the ceiling in my garage. It's hard to describe and I'll have to take a picture for you later when I get a chance. Basically made a rectangle out of 2x4's and screwed it to the ceiling in the garage so that it hung down. It's screwed in so that the middle of the rectangle is open to put things through, as opposed to flush (as flush as 2x4's could be) against the ceiling. If you were to walk into my garage it would look like I screwed an eight foot rectangle to my ceiling.

With this I am able to hang about 6-7 bikes by the seats to a total of a couple hundred pounds. Have never had any problems with hanging it from the seat and never had any problem with the rectangle trying to come unscrewed from the ceiling. As for locking, I have three locks that I use on my bikes that are most expensive or valuable to me.

This design works pretty much perfectly for my space and needs and has absolutely no adverse effects on my bicycles. Good luck with your design.

I have my HT 29er, Track Bike, and my road bike hanging from hooks that I placed in the celling. They are near the center post of my garage so they could be chained to that with a big chain. They hang from the rear wheel (thinking from the post above that it could be bad for the fork? Concerned) Ill show pics tonight of what it looks like. but they are out of the way.

I hang with a heavier duty version of the same hook, rated to a 50 lb side load. I hang three bikes with them. The outer bikes by the front wheel and the inner by the back wheel. That way I can get them closer together.

That was just the pic of a hook similar to mine I found online, mine are heavier. but I like the idea.

Easy to get down and put up. looks professional, clean and simple. only took 5 mins to put all of them up.
