Hi,

Either 29er or standard.

I'm not generally a "what's the greatest this or that" type, but I was thinking of building an all-rigid ss in slow time, which should enable me to go for something fairly top notch.

It's the available frames I need to be aware of. Something light and lovely. 853 I would think (I'm guessing Ti will be too expensive, and I'm not entirely convinced anyway...). Ideally something with a fixed rear axle and EBB. I'm fairly sure it'll probably have the new RC31 fork with Ti spigot (or the 29er version).

The only thing that's really caught my eye so far is the deKerf Solitaire, but It seems significantly different to the "long" geometry of the Inbred 29er I have and the standard Inbred I used to have - both of which I find beautiful to ride. Also, I guess the deKerf would require the absurdly priced deKerf tuning fork to go with it

The reason I'm so green on this subject is I've only been SSing for less than a year, so I'd appreciate a few frame suggestions to take a look at.

Cheers.

loaded question................

doof,
You can get a hundred different answers for this.
Find a builder who embodies what you deem important, and spend what you can afford.
MANY find 29" to have a special synergy in SS application.
I don't really care for the 26" SS any more..............FWIW.
Your opinion may differ.
Remember, sometimes more is actually less.........................especially in SS applications.

So the short answer is...........that is up to you to decide.

good luck and enjoy.

My take

My Take would be something peculiar with ENO.

I know 29ers have a hold with the lot of many of us, but a couple of years back, I thought that ENO laced to an ebayed Nishiki Alien or whatever with an elevated chainstay would be so nice and interesting...

I had a couple of Treks, a couple of Gunnars, and a Schwinn all laced up to ENO, amking them true of an essence of a single speed rig.

Now, I ride fixies, my Rock Lobster 29er with horiz drops, some day a Chester, some day...and a Karate Monkey.

The KM is a jack of all trades...horiz drops laced to an old XT 8 spd casset hub to a Salsa rim...

In my eyes, anything that is feasable is a nice SS bike.

I still wanna buy my buddy's 29er Paragon and slap an ENO on that thing. That would make for a nice and fast rig, just the frame, steel fork, midge bars...giddyup!

The same as any other "best" bike:

The one that best fits you and your riding style.

That is why there are so many different bikes available. The answer is different for every rider.

Yep, I expected as much. I could have helped matters by remembering to specify trail riding bike.

MANY find 29" to have a special synergy in SS application.
Never heard that said in such a direct way before. I certainly feel happier on my 29" inbred than I did on it's standard cousin, buit I thought that was more because I'm 6'2"/195lb than because they're singles.

Thanks for the help C.

I take on board what you say shiggy, but you didn't do that for me. I tried to intimate that I'm not some kind of elitist. Maybe I should have worded my posty just to say "can you guys point me at some quality off-road ss frames to take a look at because I'm new to all this".

Thanks for your reply though.

Banana, I have no idea what you are referring to. You are not the OP and I have not seen any other posts by you.
