Hey guys/gals

switching my Jamis Dakar to a double ring set up in front...My swingarm won't let me get to the recommended ft derailleur height of 1-2 mm above the largest ring (went down to 38T for big ring) without hitting the bottom of the ft derailleur. Currently have a SLX on the bike but have a XT at my disposal that I can pull off one of the other bikes. They look pretty similar (from a cage stand-point). Any suggestions?

SLX or the XT will work fine. Just pick.

Can any front mech be stopped down to work with a 2x10 setup or is it a bad idea?

You really do not need to lower the derailleur, just leave it at the height for a triple (44t) chainring. However, if you'd like to have it lower for your 2 ring setup, the SLX FD-M665 has a shorter cage designed for a 36t ring...it should work fine on a 38t too.
