Fully loaded with gear I weigh in around 220lbs give or take a few lbs. I'm currently riding on DT Swiss XR 4.2d rims and they're getting pretty beat.

My wheel set is the very last place I want to add weight, but I know the XR 4.2d is already one of the lighter rims out there. Can anyone tell me a strong but not too heavy rim? Cost isn't so much a factor except for maybe the XRC 330's.

...tubeless?

I would consider most of my riding XC, but I don't shy away from any larger hits I can take. 2-3 foot drop, up stairs at a good speed, etc. Hopefully I'll be leaning towards bigger drops as I gain confidence, but that's another story.

Just built up this beast. I love it and it is FAST...

I am 6'6' 224 so I am in the same boat you are. Seems like you do moderate to aggressive XC like me also. So here is what I built.

Rims: Mavic ex729s
Hubs: Shimano XT 775s
Spokes: DT Comps

Strung 36s

True Bombers. I will probably never use there true potential but it is good to not worry about bending a rim anymore. I have found myself Iot more fearless....which might be a bad thing

Crap, that'll add over a pound to my wheelset! Is there no other way? Am I being unrealistic wanting to find a tough rim around 400g?
