Hello, I would like to try cyclocross for the first time, live in the Bay Area (South bay) and am looking for a place that would allow usage of mountainbikes. (I do not have a cyclocross bike), and the sort of thing where I can wear my typical moutnain bike shoes. Any body know where and what race I should try?

though it's a drive. there are a couple more races in Santa Rosa. 1 in January and 1 in February. very low key, friendly events. and after if you want more riding you can always hit annadel for some of the best mtb riding in the Bay.

why the no barends thing? Not questioning it, but I'm curious.
From USA Cycling...

"One other note: cyclo-cross is a mass-start race, and according to US Cycling Federation rules, bikes used in mass-start events may not have objects that protrude forward. This means no bar ends in USCF sanctioned cyclo-cross races. Remove them before race day and save yourself an unpleasant surprise at the start line."
