Looking at building a light hardail on a budget. Only need frame and fork. What's the best? Ive been looking at the Chinese carbon frame, one one, tomac flint and 2nd hand frames on eBay. Anything I'm missing? Is it best to wait for a bargain on eBay?

Bingo!

3.2 lbs on the medium frame if you can find one....
The shop I work for has a new slogan.
Pick one
Light is not cheap
Cheap is not light.
If you get something used that can have its issues. But thats how it goes.
VM
The Salsa Mamasita. there are some 2009/10s around at about $750.00 and the new one
thats comming out in June MSRP is going to be $599.00. it has a BB30 and I was told by Sram that it would have to run 10 sped, I could run an adapter for 9spd bou it would be heaver.

I am also looking to build a light weight & I have looked at everything on your list & more
I also like the Spscialized alum M5 stumpjumped I think, it's light and it has shorter C/S
length. So what I think I'm going to do is keep my Mamasita, it's only about 22 1/2 lbs
I am going to put a Niner Carbon fork on it and see how I like it.

What exactly is your budget for frame and fork? Everyone's definition of "budget" is different.

You would basically have to run a 10spd crankset because there aren't many BB30 options that aren't 10spd, however a 9spd chain and drivetrain is compatible with a 10spd crankset

Also the Problem Solvers and Wheels Manufacturing BB30 adapters for normal external BB cranks should be quite light. I don't know the actual weight, but the adapter is a simple sleeve made out of a very tough plastic that sits inside the BB30 bearings and reduces down to 24mm ID as well as sticking out the side a bit to compensate for width of the missing bb cups
boomn, I sent you a PM, but how about the durability of the bb30 with the adapter for 9 spd.

I don't have any personal experience with it, nor do many people at this point I think as it was only recently released. However, Problem Solvers makes good quality and well engineered products so I would be confident that it holds up well
I had the bb30 adapter for over a year.
It's just a deralin sleeve and works fine...used it with a XTR crank
There is no such thing as a 10 speed crank.....you can run what ever rear cluster with any crank.
XX Cranks will work with the bb30 but not the GXP Truvativ Noir or the Stylo.
What I have found out is that Sram & Problem Solvers are working on them
they will be here soon ;) And it's going to be July for the new Mamasita frame.
