Looking for a cheap 29er frame for occasional riding. Thinking in the sub-$200 range. Any opinions ?

Performance Access XCL 9r
For the money, the Sette Razo can't be beat. I have one built with an X9 drivetrain, but I'm getting rid of the drivetrain and making it a SS with a White Eno hub.

I bought my 08 Redline Monocog Flight 29er frame (frame only) for $185. I'm building it now and I can't wait to finish it. I test rode a complete Flight and it rides great.

Sette Razzo $179..just started building mine!
How is the quality? Did you have to face/chase the BB? How is the head tube quality? Is the brake mount plane?
Looking really hard at buying this frame instead of the Access.

Back to OP, from what I have read both the Access XCL9r at Performance and the Sette Razzo at Price Point are good frames
in that price point. (Yea pun)
I've got a Motobecane Outcast frame I bought here. It can be run as geared or SS since it has rear vertical sliding dropouts. Fairly light (not as light as the razzo or access). I had issues with the rear tire not being centered in the chain and seat stays. Haven't figured out if the frame is cattywompus or i just don't have the sliders adjusted correcty. Its held up so far to my 300 lb arse for about 100 miles.

So where did you get the frame from?

I got mine and they threw in a $20 discount in the checkout, so it came to $130.
I just finished the build yesterday and it rides great!
Got Razzo at Pricepoint.com..Shipping was a little steep at $38..came to $219 total. Or you can do a nationwide craigslist search. there were a few frames there too.
Thanks for all the help thinking about going with the Access looks to be a great deal for the money.

Its $12 cheaper today and tomorrow if that helps:D
I purchased my XCL 9r for $89. Had the frame shipped to the store for pickup and BB facing was free! Their specials depend on the day/time in addition to the normal markdowns. Mine is converted to a SS using a Yess ETR-B tensioner and has been a great bike so far. You may want to get a Cane Creek ZS-3 headset, as the included one is cheap.

I ride a 21" 09 Monocog 29er! Paid $450 at LBS.

Check out the Monocog 29er frame and a couple others at this site:

$249 with fork! When you add all the other stuff LBS price is pretty good!
Soul Cycles Dillinger 3rd Gen, very nice, good price and has an EBB.

Godspeed, I really love my Motobecane Outcast 29er. I'm set up singlespeed but it has cable stops and a derailleur hanger if you want to go geared. According to Sasquach's link, Bike Island only has the 21" size left. Too bad, I thought about getting another. Oh, and Sassquatch, it's really easy to get your wheel crooked with the sliders. Keep practicing.
