Going to have to push it to 350.00 if he wants a new Bike, and then it is pretty much a Gary Fisher or Trek and both are the same components wise. Perhaps he should look for a nice used bike.
Best bike for three hundo?
My roommate is lookin for a new mtn bike and only wants to spend 300. I really don't know of any half decent bikes for that price that don't weight as much as an H2. Got any ideas?

I'd say his best bet is to start lurking craigslists for good deals. You can get some really great bikes for a good price.
