I ride my bike A LOT. My current 2.25" width tires are literally bald in the center, and I should get new ones. I'm also pretty broke, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a pair of NEW tires that won't break the bank, and, where I could get them? I'll be using it for mostly XC singletrack, as well as riding on pavement. I don't mind if these tires are as wide as my old ones. Really, I'm looking for just a decent all around tire. I'll be using it for singletrack/uphill/downhill and pavement. Thank you very much!

P.S. Should I just pick up a cheapo pair at Wal-mart? Quality is more important to me than price, but really, I cannot spend much.

This is my first post on mtbr!

Wally World sells the Bell Kingpin folding tire in store which is simply a CST Cabellaro relabeled. They run about $25 a tire.

The cheapest thing to do is squirrel away a cheap pair of tires as they come up on sale. More than a pair gets dicey as your riding style and bikes change. I do this with all my consumables; chains, nutrition, tubes, and cassettes.

Not sure if people still do this but some people replace tires as soon they wear about 10% and dumpster diving your LBS can net good finds or ask the mechanic there.
