If you could choose any 200+/180mm rotor combo for XT 4-piston trail brakes, what would you choose?

  • Hayes D-Series
  • Hope Floating Disc
  • Magura HC
  • Shimano XT SM-RT86 Ice-Tech
  • SwissStop Catalyst Pro
  • SRAM HS2 Rotor

Used to use hope, switched to ice tech. Seem to work well.

Anyone know if there is a locally made rotor(USA or Canada)?

Don’t leave those unlocked on your locked up bike!

These brakes are the most disappointing garbage. I have an 8020 that just puked up the caliper guts in barely 400 miles, the 8120 bleeds the bite point down in three rides and needs a constant fluid bleed.

I'm moving to 2.0 rotors hoping that may improve these bite point issues. Someone at Shimano needs to go hara kiri over these pathetic parts.

If you are having a caliper that is pushing out its pistons (is that what you mean by puking caliper guts?) Then increasing the thickness of your rotor is by 0.2mm is not going to fix that - you have a much more serious issue. Care to share a photo of the setup/failure so we can get a better understanding?
Skip the RT86 & Go with the RT76. The AL/SS sandwich of the RT86 is impossible to true if it gets bent. The AL core is so soft they tend to dent/warp. The RT76 is much easier to deal with. No noticeable difference performance wise.
galfer 2.0 thick rotors imo

I hope so, just ordered a pair to go with my XT 4 pots. Currently use Ice-Techs, but find they warp pretty easy.

Those rotors have been very good, even here in Spain where I winter riding now.
switched front rotor from 220 to 203 and it’s more power full than old Sram rotor.

I’ve read the Galfer rotors are noisy due to their wave design, and offer less power that the Shimano. At this point, I’m leaning towards the Hayes or Shimano, but I wish Shimano made 2mm thick rotors. The Hayes are 2mm thick, which I’m hoping would reduce the bite point on the levers.

I’ve found I have to wind the XT lever adjuster all the way out, else when braking hard the levers nearly touch my fingers. Would a thicker rotor help to reduce that?
Just a thought..

What about trickstuff rotors?.. i don't have them but am thinking about giving them a try.. angled edges to help when putting the wheels on the bike , decent price and they look cool.

Why? What makes the rotor more special than say, SRAM or Magura?

I’d assume for the average joe any would work fine as long as they’re 2.0mm thick. I like the Galfer design better, more heat dissipation
