I have got a bent Quick Release lodged into my XT hub. It is bent enough that I cannot tighten the QR tight enough to get any tension for locking it in place. I realize that this is unsafe but have no idea how to remove the QR. I have tried to move it with a rubber mallet and such thinking the pressure would help. It didnt work. Other than buying a new hub and rebuilding the wheel is the any other option I can maybe take into consideration? Are there ways that the LBS might be able to do it?

thanks for any help on this matter!

Hacksaw??

Seriously, I've bent many a quick release scewer in my days...and have most often been able to pull 'em out of there with a pair of pliers....you may have to cut off the least offensive part with a hacksaw, then pull the other part out.

I've never had to "replace" a hub due to a bent scewer.

Either cut it off or re-bend it

The part that was inside the axle when it bent is still straight, if it's mesed up beyond straightening just cut it off flush with the end of the axle and it'll slip right out.

Depending how it happened you might also find that the axle is bent. This happened to me after a spill.

Perhaps if you cut one end off athe QR nd then use a long punch or bolt to drive it out the other side.
