Beginner need help

I’m looking into getting into mountain bike riding, I would like to know how much I will expect to spend on a bike to start with and if its better for me to build or buy pre build. I was thinking of a hard tail and maybe a shock in the front. Maybe something that I could up grade in the future.
How would you get a freind to spend the mouny to buy a bike so you had some one to ride with?

I would say you should try and spend at least $400+. It should be cheaper to buy a prebuilt over building yourself. For a bike in the lower price range don't get full suspension, but defiently get a front shock. About your friend.. I don't know, tell him how fun it is!
