I just read on Yahoo news of a 14 year old girl attacked by a bear while participating in a 24 hour MB race in Alaska. She is in serious condition. She managed to make a 911 call and say "bear", then the line went dead; responders called her number back and another racer heard the phone ring and found her.

holy crap that's a serious story.

glad the girl was able to call 911 for help, and that a fellow racer was aware enough (at 1AM!) to hear a cell phone ringing off trail and go check it out. prayers to the girl.
