Plus, once you put a standard threaded BB adaptor into a BB-30 frame there's no going back (thanks to green loctite).

Hmmm...as per Cannondale's Carbon Rush manual I have: "CARBON RUSH STANDARD BOTTOM BRACKET SHELL THREADED INSERT (1) IS PERMANENT AND NON-REMOVABLE. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE IT. YOU CAN CAUSE SERIOUS FRAME DAMAGE.
Once installed, the adapter is a non-removable/ permanent frame part
.". I'd love it if that was wrong, but I don't know how the heck you remove a metal part installed with green loctite. If there's some trick I'd love to hear it. My Carbon Rush had the insert installed in it when I bought it.

removing the adaptor will make a big 'CRACK' noise, that may make you poo a bit, but it will press out. if the press is applied correctly to the aluminium surfaces of bb shell and adaptor, it should not effect the carbon bonding as the carbon surrounding the bb shell won't be affected by the pressures applied.

but if cannondale say it should not be attempted, don't DO IT.

sorry never had a Rush ... only tried one ride

there is lot of confusion...

one thing is a frame with english permanent adapter as BBQ scalpel on auction ...

other thing is the removable adapter ...

a friend removed it from a 2007 Cannondale Taurine himself , with no professional tool ...

no problem doing it ... no problem at the bike since many months are gone

other friend done in a 2008 alu scalpel TR ... again no problem

The adaptor is removable but not under just any 'mechanic'... It's easy to mess it up and some might not use the right tools and techniques (using a torch to melt the loctite then hit it out with a hammer is not the right technique), so Cannondale are going for safety and say it's not removable. Basically, you can do it but at your own risks, if you mess it up or if the area ever cracks, BB sleeve unbonds from the carbon shell or something, don't expect a warranty.

Hi,

I pressed out the threaded bb adapter from a 2009 taurine frame.

There was no evidence of any loctite having been used between the adapter and the bb30 aluminium sleeve.

If you are doing it, check the tech note on cannondales website and make sure you only ever press against the alumium sleeve and not the carbon frame itself. And, of course, be very careful, as DG says its all at your own risk etc !

Cheers !
