I just got a 1x1, and I have a question regarding the BB. I'm using square taper Ultegras (it's to be my commuter - 42:16 or 42:17). I could see crank arm clearance was going to be an issue, so I got a Shimano sealed BB with a 127 mm spindle, and while the chainline is great, the non-drive crank arm is almost touching the chainstay. It's still creaking, and I can't tighten the bolts any more without losing new paint. I'll give up some chainline for some clearance. Is there a BB with less offset for chainrings? In square taper? Is there something else out there? Help.

had the same problem before when i used road cranks, same BB spindle, i think that's the longest that you can buy. put the chainring outside the spider, grind the tip of the crank arm that is touching the stays with a file or dremel, problem solved (for me). or buy a new drivetrain altogether.
